Of Fallacious Eschatology

or Dumb Things People Believe About the Last Days

There are so many strange and weird ideas about what’s going to happen in the last days, that we need a scorecard to keep track of them all. I hope to cover some of the more familiar ones and explain where they come from. I think this is a very important point to cover and has not been preached enough.

1. The Rapture or “Left Behind”—Have any of you read the “Left Behind” series? I have read some of the books and they are entertaining. They are also pure baloney. There is NO rapture and NOT ONE of God’s people is going to be left behind. What will transpire is ALL of God’s people will be resurrected and changed and ALL of God’s people will be taken home to Paradise. So where does this myth come from? It comes from a prophesy Jesus made to the apostles. Read it:

Matthew 24:37 “But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.”

It is my opinion that the above prophesy was fulfilled in the year 70, when Jerusalem was destroyed by the Romans. “One was taken” means they were taken captive by the Romans. “The other left” means they were not taken by the Romans.

Leaving people behind is not in the Lord’s nature. The Good Shepherd left the 99 sheep safely in the fold and went after the one sheep that went astray. Before the Lord destroyed Sodom and the other cities, the few righteous people who lived there were taken safely out by the angels. Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord, he and his family were saved by the very waters that destroyed the wicked. Folks…I will tell you again: Leaving people behind in NOT in His nature! What kind of parent leaves a child behind?? An absent-minded parent like me does a thing like that. I left Sam at a restaurant one time and I still hate myself for that. Well, God is NOT absent- minded. “He calleth his own sheep by name” and “The Lord knoweth them that are his.” So, stop worrying my friends, God is on it.

But, notice…

2. The Thousand Year Reign—The question is not whether there will be a 1000 year reign, but rather, when will it take place? Is it going to happen in the future? (Pre-Millennialism) or has it already occurred? (Post-Millennialism) or is the reign a symbolic thing? (A-Millennialism) I personally think it’s a symbolic thing.

Revelation 20:4 “And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.”

One thousand is a symbolic number. It means everything or a whole bunch. It is used often in the Scriptures to portray a long passage of time, a high volume of things or everything. Notice this scripture: Psalm 50:10 “For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.”

Now, can we take the above verse to be literal? If so, which thousand hills are the Lord’s? There are about that many in the Texas Hill Country (they would have to be the ones), so does that mean all the other hills are NOT the Lord’s. Nah, what this means is that the Lord owns ALL the hills and ALL the cows on those hills.

The fact is: Jesus is reigning right now. When He ascended up into heaven, He sat down at the right hand of the Father, which is a picture of His great authority. In Psalm 110:1, David writes, “The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.” Here, David the King was prophesying of the King of Kings and the super reign He shall have.

One last thing: That Kingdom is going on right now. Luke 17:21, “Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.”

But, notice…

3. The Antichrist—Folks, we are too late to get one of these; he’s been around for a long time. In fact, he was there in the Apostle John’s day.

1John 2:18 “Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.”

So who is the Antichrist?

1John 2:22, “Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.”

1John 4:3 “And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.”

2John 1:7 “For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.”

I think you get the idea. I don’t need to spend anymore time on this point.

But, notice…

4. The Mark of the Beast—When I was kid in the 1960’s, a classmate was scaring everybody to pieces because he told us that the Beast was coming and has the machines in place to give us all the beastly mark. In the 1970’s, a buddy of mine was all about the Beast and those dreaded machines. In the 1980’s, I heard the some thing. Well, I sure hope the Beast has kept his machines upgraded because technology has advanced a whole lot since the ‘60’s. Perhaps that is what kept us from being marked because every time the Beast gets the machines ready, another leap in technology is made. We’ve gone from vacuum tubes, to transistors, to integrated circuits, and on to nanotechnology. I bet that poor Beast is tearing his horns out. LOL! So, what is the mark?

Revelation 13:15-17 “And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: and that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.”

Some say that the mark of the beast (MOB) is a biochip (brand name: “VeriChip”) that is to be implanted within us. This makes no sense for the mark is supposed to be made in two places; in the forehead and the right hand. If one chip can hold tons of data, why would the beast need two chips? I really don’t think any New World Order will be able to sell the idea of getting most of the population to allow this chip to be inserted into them anyway. Hippies, environmentalists, rednecks with guns, religious fanatics and cults would all unite against it. What a coalition that would be!

Some say it is the Social Security System (SSS) preparing society for the tyrannical mark of the beast, both because of its socialist nature as well as the conditioning it engenders for a Big Brother numbering system. That makes no sense because the SSS is an American system and the MOB is supposed to be worldwide. And because the SSS is always supposed to be running out of money, it seems the MOB is not on very good footing.

Some say the MOB involves major department store credit cards. Religious publications cite various "proofs" involving the presence of the number 666 found in credit cards issued by some of the large chain stores. To them, this credit card represents the Mark of the Beast. My very first bank account number had "666" Hmmmm...I wonder?

Some say the MOB is the UPN code you see on products nowadays. Come on people! This is just a modern form of pricing, inventory and classifying. You might as well believe that the old Dewey Decimal System is the mark.

I believe the MOB is a sign or seal of ownership, sort of like a proof of purchase. It means that whoever has this mark is owned by something or someone. In the past, animals and slaves were often branded with the owner’s name. History tells us that Ptolemy Philadelphus compelled some Alexandrian Jews to receive the mark of Dionysus as his devotees. Roman soldiers cut in a mark in their arm for the general under whom they served. My friends, do not look for the MOB machines coming to get you; these marks have been around a long time. Jesus said to certain Jews in John 8:44, “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do.” These folks already had the mark. As my boys like to say, "You are so OWNED!"

One more point: God’s people are marked as well. I call this the Mark of the Lamb and it is also a sign of ownership...we are owned by the Jesus Christ, my friends. We are not our own for we are bought with a price--the precious blood of Jesus. Paul said in Galatians 6:17, “From henceforth let no man trouble me: for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus.” Paul had the Mark of the Lamb. In Revelation 7:3, “Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.” Well, there ya go! We are marked by God and have been made His property. How do ya like that? I like it just fine.

This is it in a nutshell folks. Bottom line—stop your worrying and put your faith in God. He has taken care of us in the past and will continue to do so till the Last Day when Jesus comes back to take us home. Amen and amen.

Thank you,
David Montgomery

Not the Mark of the Beast
Not the Mark of the Beast
Not the Mark of the Beast
Not it either
Romans 8:15 "For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear;
but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father."
Folks are making tons of money off people's fear.
