Why Did I Join the Primitive Baptist Church? PDF Print E-mail

"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind" (2 Tim. 1:7). I came from a Catholic family, and grew up in the Catholic Church. But the merciful God opened my eyes and let me know His truth during the second time I had come to the USA for my Ph.D. program. Because of a bicycle accident, my eyes were partially open--and I am not blind sometimes. I experienced the love of God and  was baptized after this accident. The joy of the Lord was so sweet that I thought I already held a guaranteed ticket to Heaven, so I can do anything I want. But the reality was not as I expected. Four years ago, the Lord used a brother from the Primitive Baptist Church in my class to share his belief with me. This is the first time I had heard "Primitive Baptist". After I listened to his sharing, it really made me laugh in my mind, especially "feet washing". During that time, the only thing I knew to be  Christian was to have a good enough performance, so I did not pay attention to thinking about the Primitive Baptist belief, and also considered this brother a little bit strange. But later on, the more I read the Bible and prayed, the more deeper doctrines about God manifested to me in my daily life. By His sovereign grace, God gave me a sound and sober mind to study His word, and the Holy Spirit led me to a sensitive and holy life. He let me know that His salvation is not by my works but by His grace.

I spent several years praying for God's guidance to lead me to join a genuine church. By His mercy, and I know my Lord did not give me up, so He used His faithful servant Bro. Bradley's Sunday program named "Baptist Bible Hour" to touch my heart again  last summer, especially the topic "God's Sovereign Grace". The more I listen to brother Bradley's message, the more God's word quickens me. I confess and repent before the Lord what a sinful and disobedient child I am. His sovereign grace let me know I am forgiven, and my sin was taken away through the precious blood of Christ. Now, I am a new man and enjoy His victory daily. Thanks to God's provision and Elder Bradley's concern, I know there is a Primitive Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas. After I came back Lubbock two weeks later, the Holy Spirit leads me to go to the Primitive Baptist Church of Lubbock through my prayer. Finally, I went there with the dear saints to worship our Lord. And I remembered before I left church after the worship at the first time, there were several saints to ask me "will you come next week?" Because I know this is a commitment with God, I can not resist and reject the Holy Spirit's guidance. Because I know my flesh is weak, my body is not willing to be present there, but the only thing I know He loves me and concerns for my spiritual life. I deny myself and let the Holy Spirit control my life daily.

His time has come, so I make a commitment to the Lord, and am baptized in the Primitive Baptist Church of Lubbock on March 9, 1997. I am joyful to be a body of Christ with the sweet saints of the Primitive Baptist Church of Lubbock, and I surely know what He promises me. "For I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day." (1 Tim. 1:12) Let every thank and praise give to the Lord forever and ever. Amen!

P.S. I also give my thanks to this brother's sharing, and let me know there is a Primitive Baptist and what the Primitive Baptist belief is.

His and Yours Maidservant,
