Chapter III—Woman Riding on Beast

“And there came one of the seven angels saying, Come hither; I will show unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness; and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet colored beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet color, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abomination and filthiness of her fornications. And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS, AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.” Rev. 17:1-3.

The next chapter will show what went with this horrible woman when the last vial of God’s wrath is poured out upon the Woman and the corrupt governments that carried her. For this terrible beast is the governments that supported Catholicism. It was a strange sight to see a woman riding on a strange looking scarlet colored beast. Then look at her fine dress. Let us study this interpretation. Notice that the translators have put these words in large caps. This is to help make the interpretation more clear. Why is it called a mystery? Let us go back to Paul to get a start on this matter.

“For the mystery of iniquity doth already work; only he who now letteth, will let, until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that wicked be revealed whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming.” 2. Thess. 2:7-8.

This awful corruption had commenced on a small scale by some churches that had gone off into some departures even in Paul’s day. And from that departure did the great Babylon develop. God let or allowed it. Did not cause; God did not cause mystery Babylon to rise in the earth. But he is able and will vindicate his honor upon Babylon, because he is a complete sovereign. He will pour out his vials of wrath on mystery Babylon until all his holy law is fully vindicated.

This language in big cap letters in meant for the main interpretation. Babylon itself means confusion. It is called Babylon the great. Thus shows its worldly nature. Alexander was called the great because he killed so many people and reigned over so many. Pompey was called the great, also Julius Caesar. Also Constantine. Also Theodosius, also Charlemagne, was called Charles the great, and there were others to whom it was applied. Constantine was called the great and he is the man with his Roman Empire that set up the great Catholic Church, and it was not set up by the Lord Jesus. Jesus said to his church:   “Fear no little flock for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” Luke 12. But this was the true and not Babylon. So that in this interpretation we have confusion and great. Which being translated means great confusion. What has the Roman Catholic Church set up on the earth but great confusion and crime? Then notice she is the mother of daughters. But the true church of Christ was a mother of an only Son. These daughters came up by her relations with the wicked kings of the earth. Henry the eighth was the father of the church of England, which is the second daughter of Catholicism, the Lutheran Church of Gernany through the influence of Mother of harlots. Can we be mistaken as to Martin Luther and the Emperor of Germany was the first the meaning of this strange language? Any church is of Babylon that eats and feasts on confusion. Let us beware the divisions and contentions among some others with bitterness and debate, also shows confusion that looks similar to Babylon. Where are the Baptists that do this?

This woman was drunken with the blood of the saints. Drunk with her murders. Is it any wonder that she was called the abominations of the earth? Of all the hideous monsters of earth it is that outfit that killed sixty millions of God’s poor people about religion! Is it not strange that men would get so steeped in darkness and ignorance? We do certainly live in a more enlightened age in that the people have made laws to stop this wholesale murder of people about religion. This woman has made her way by overdrawing the people.

“And when I saw her I wondered with great admiration.” Why should John get to wondering at this sight? Think of the power of armies it took to keep up this great world church, of the bloodshed it has taken to keep up its claims and gaudy shows, the expensive courts that it has established in the earth to hunt out and punish heresy. Her power and control reached to all the thickly settled countries of Europe and Asia. When all her mighty power, and territory and gory that has been heaped upon her by the king of the earth, and how she reigned for some twelve hundred years, it was enough to make one to look on with great admiration. Not to worship but to see what the power and wickedness of man has attained to. But we are to look at the church by faith, and not by sight.

“And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns. The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, (the carnal mind) and go into perdition, (everlasting hell): and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names are not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, (then in existence), and is not, (now in existence as it was), and yet is, (in existence in another form; like the second beast).

And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth. And there are seven kings.” This now means government as proved here, by the saying that there are seven kings. So then the beast on which the woman sitteth is the government of Constantine who undertook to pay the preachers’ salary out of the public crib. The laziest set of men on this earth is high salaried ministers who will not work. Thus the church is riding on the government. I am not opposing the helping of the preacher that is willing to do his part, but I am opposed to that lazy fellow that wants a big pay and does not teach you any good truth, nor does anything but try to preach a little and not much of that as real preaching. Church and state was united under the government of Constantine the great. He changed things and pretended to believe the Christian faith.

What are these seven mountains on which the woman sitteth? First it is the immediate city of Rome, which is the headquarters of the seat of the beast. Then in a symbolic sense it is the Roman government with the various heads of or tributaries that united to keep up the central power at the city of Rome.

“And ten horns which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.” These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast. All the kings of the east such as Tiradates, Odenatheus, Zenobia, Cleopatra, and numerous other leaders who obtained local notoriety and then soon went down. From Julius Caesar on.

“These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.” V. 14. Now this is very important. How does this powerful Lamb do his work of overcoming these enemies? We know he is not out with a band of men killing men with swords, and guns, cannon. He is able to turn every bullet, and stop every wheel of the rolling carriages that are marching to battle. He rules so as to make sin punish sin.

There is a principal in the providence of God that is often overlooked. That is how God carries out his judgments, and allows one wicked ruler to overthrow another, and God so ruled over the affair so as to make it strong judgment against the one over-thrown. “And Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the Lord, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to inquire of it; And inquire not of the Lord: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom to David the son of Jesse.” 1 Chron. 10:13-14. This scripture says the Lord slew him. Yet we understand that Saul and his sons were slain by the Philistines in the battle. Yet it was arranged for Saul to be overthrown by these enemies’, for his disobedience, and is said to have been slain by the Lord.

The Lamb shall overcome them. How did God overcome the children of Israel for their many idolatries? He did it by suffering the king of Babylon to come in and take the country by a most bloody war. Yet this was wicked on the part of old king Nebucadnezzra. So the Lord afterward overthrew the kingdom of Babylon.

The Lord said that he would overthrow that kingdom, yet it was all done by the Medes and Persians, “And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation for their iniquity.” Speaking of the people killed in these battles, he says, ‘Whom I have slain in mine anger.” Jer. 35:5. “Behold. I will command, said the Lord, and cause them to return to this city, and they shall fight against it and take it, and burn it with fire. The king of Babylon shall certainly return and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast.” Jer. 36:29.

The real cause is Babylon. Jer. 51 :49 Yet the Lord is said to have done it. Vs. 53:4-5-6-7-64. But this is because God chose this method of punishing his people for their wickedness. Abner who was the captain of the army of King Saul, knew that he was acting the hypocrite persecute David, but he escaped from the battle where Saul was killed, and looked like he was going to escape any punishment. But later on when Abner decided to turn the kingdom to David, and came to see David to turn the kingdom over to him, as he was going back to bring the people on, that Joab came in, and when he found that Abner had just been there, he sent a runner to stop and recall Abner as if there was some important business overlooked in the negotiations, and as Joab and Abner met, Joab stabbed Abner that he died. This was a just judgment upon Abner as God suffered it, but yet it was a sin in Joab to kill Abner, and shed the blood of war in time of peace and so judgment is here laid up for Joab. In the days of Solomon this judgment came upon Joab, as David had instructed Solomon to do, but to do so in a way that it would be both wise and righteous. God is said often to be the one that kills the wicked people for their wickedness, yet it quite frequently comes to pass by the hand of the wicked, which is God’s sword.

So the Lamb of God will overthrow the entire Roman Empire, for his kingdom is to break in pieces and consume it. Dan. 2:44.

Jer. 16:9. is God the cause? “Shall a man make gods unto himself, and ‘they are no gods. Therefore I will this once cause them to know.” Jer 16:21-2. “I will bring evil upon this place” (not sin). “Will cause them to fall by the sword, before their enemies, and by the hand of them and seek them, I will make this city desolate.” Will God he the direct cause? No, Yet He says, “I will punish you.” Jer. 21.

Yet God no more put it into the heart of Nebuchadnezzar by his direct spirit work to come and kill the children, than he put it in the heart of King Saul to persecute David. It was the influence of his own fleshly zeal and envy and jealousy, like gets in preachers sometimes. Like as God overthrew the people of Isreal, by suffering their enemies to come upon them. so in this way God after this did overthrow the king of Babylon by the rising up of the Medes and Persians. Then in the same like manner was the Medes and Persians overthrown, by the army of Alexander the Great, who conquered the world, and his kingdom in like manner was overthrown by the Roman legions. The Macedonian Phalanx, was overthrown by the legions of the Romans and proved to be the most effective manner of warfare. Our God is the ruler of the universe, and none but a blatant infidel will deny it. He surely rules in righteousness. In his strange providence he puts down one and puts up another but never by acting as the mover of sin. He suffers the devil to come so far, and there he stops him, like as in Job’s case.

Then think of Julius Caesar, the mighty statesman and conqueror of Gaul, and Germany, and then returning to Rome and pursing Pompery till he was slain and going on taking Egypt, then coming back met the great Miltridates army and saw and conquered that, then think of the triumphant returns of the mighty Roman army from a thousand battlefields, bringing kings they had captured, millions of dollars of gold, and wild animals all exhibited in a great parade through the streets of the city of Rome. After Julius Caesar, came Augustus Caesar who reigned forty- four years over Rome, and boasted that he found it a city of brick and left it a city of marble. Then think of Tiberias, Nero, Vespasian, Titus, who destroyed Jerusalem. Domitan his wicked brother who killed so many of the saints, Nerva, Trojan, greatly admired by Gibbon in his history. Hadrian, the two Antonines, reigned from 138-180. Their peaceful reign was most popular and left an enduring name of honor and nobility behind them for future posterity to rejoice in. Then comes the wicked Commodus, then the powerful Severus, the bloody Caracalla, Diocleftian, great, noble and brave, but allowed himself to be deceived till he signed the tenth persecution of the Christians. Then soon Constantine the great that surpassed all in bringing Christianity to his side.

The family of Constantine ruled over Rome for some sixty years. During the reign of Constantine the great, the capital was moved to Byzantium of the Strait of Bosphorus, and the name changed to Constantinople, in honor of the great Constantine, but this was only temporary, for we see that the city of Rome on the Tiber river in Italy was the great headquarters of the church, and this power of control soon directed the course of affairs. If you ride an animal you direct the course of that animal. The church directed in a large measure who should be the rulers and who should decide the forms of the laws. The pope had no laws that did not suit his liking. Or else there is war. Nearly all the great wars since the Reformation has been brought on by the meddling of the Roman Catholics. The Roman capital began to gain ruling ascendency about 190 years before Christ and continued without an important break till the two legs began to fount under Arcadius who reigned at Constantinople, and Honorius his brother that reigned at the city of Rome in about 400 A. D. Then again under the influence of the ruling bishop at Rome, that city began to issue others till the great Reformation under Martin Luther in and around 1570-85. Rome reigned 1775 years. Here the chief ruling power of this iron city of Rome fell down completely.

The governments turned to be Protestant and then the drift of civilization began to roll into the city of London till it for years now has been the largest city of the world and the metropolis of civilization. This became very plain and strong in the reign of Queen Elizabeth of England in 1558-1603. But where in the history of the world is there any city or power that has controlled the people for such a long period as the city of Rome, and as the Roman Catholic church headquarters at Rome? This city of Rome was the seat and head of three things. It was the head of the government; It was the head of the church (Catholics); it was the great financier. This last was the real unseen ruler of both the others. This is the city that ruled over the kings of the earth as no other city has yet crone, or ever shall do. This is then the woman ‘that rode on the scarlet colored beast.

God did not cause the devil to afflict Job, but suffered him, and afterward overruled this suffering for Job’s good, like he does for his children here in this world. The sun never causes darkness, God never causes sin. God lets a wicked man go so far in his nefarious business, and then the purposed time to stop comes, then the thing, comes to pass, most frequently without direct act on God’s part. Now, notice the time is just here to punish Pharaoh for his persecutions of Israel. God held up the water and thus performed a miracle to help the children go when they are safe, the entire miracle ceases, and then there is nothing to hold up the water and as there is nothing to hold it up it goes back to its natural place and thus drowns Pharaoh and all his host. This however was holy and intelligent way that God ordained that God would get great honor upon his holy name. And this awful event has reached the ears of every nation on earth. So here then is that Scripture fulfilled that says, “Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might show my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.” Rom. 9:17.

So the Lamb. All the wickedness is against the Lamb, and against God. So the powers of the wicked woman instead of helping save sinners, they are simply fighting the Lamb. But the Lamb is to overcome them. Jesus will finally cast that beast into the lake of fire, and shall utterly destroy this old Babylon and burn her with fire. My only hope rests on the faith that this Almighty Lamb of God is ruling over all things so that the devil can not get a single child of God. Not one shall be taken sooner than when our Father wills. “Not a single shaft shall hit, Till the God of Love sees fit.”
God moves in a mysterious way. This is so strange to us, that we can not trace the hidden hand of Jehovah as he rules over men till they are caught in their own traps and are overthrown and brought down. In Daniel we read:  “And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvelous things against the God of gods and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that this is determined shall be done.” Dan.11:36.

Along this line God suffers a Caesar or a Herod or a Constantine to go so far and when his time comes, this one is overthrown and another walks in, like Jehu, and he drives furiously till the seed of Ahab or Jezebel is overthrown and cast to the dogs’. This is God’s strange providence and it is marvelous in our eyes. God does this every time without causing this wicked man to do his meanness, but so as that one man’s wickedness is punished by another? Thus the Lamb of God is to rule all nations with a rod of iron, and one will go down another will rise up, but he will put it into the hearts of some to love and honor him, and in the long run they shall prosper and  overcome.

This is the way the kingdom of Jesus is to break in pieces and consume all other kingdoms and is to stand forever. This is the way the Lamb is now in war with these mighty enemies. He has an army of chosen followers and they are called and chosen and faithful. One of them can chase a thousand and two put ten thousands to flight. Jesus told his disciples not to meditate beforehand what they should say for, “I will give you a mouth which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay.”

And so he does for them and for others. But for the age of the elders he told them to study. But the same indestructible ark of the testimony goes on and he who touches that touches the apple of his eye, and this as a candlestick, shall not be left to other people, but in the way beforehand mentioned, shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and shall stand forever.

We do not teach Apostolic succession, that is that we are to have inspired Apostles in every age, but we are to have succession of churches, as the ark, till the end of this age, or till Jesus comes again. The perpetuity of the church is taught in many scriptures, and in many symbols. “Upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” “Lo, I am with you always even to the end of the world.”

The twelfth of Revelation treating on the travels of the woman in the wilderness, and that old beast that carried the old Harlot persecuting her, proves that she will continue all the way to the end of this age.

The golden candlesticks traveled to Antioch, and then with Paul and Barnabas to Asia Minor, and finally on the city of Rome Italy, and then when the great Catholic church began to rise in Constantinople, and popery had to flee further, so they went on into France (Gaul and there they gathered in these mountains and we’re called Waldenses for some twelve hundred years, and the pure gospel of love, and kindness and peace and forbearance was held in acceptable form. They learned from these awful persecutions that people need much forbearance with each others weakness, and that those who have no forbearance are not the children of God but the enemies and persecutors of them.

“And he saith unto me, the waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations and tongues.” V. 15.

We notice here is a direct interpretation as to what these waters on which the woman was sitting. God uses the things in nature ‘and in ‘the world with the manners and operations to explain and bring out the meaning of these scriptures. You will know the scripture is to be explained as symbol or figure when it is something that can not happen in nature just exactly. Jesus is a Lamb, but it could not be so naturally. God’s people are trees, but this can not be so naturally. A natural woman can not be clothed with the sun and the moon under her feet, and a woman’s baby would not be caught up to heaven naturally. So that must be a figure, a symbol. So now in my present text. “a woman sitting on many waters.” How can ‘this be? Well, it simply means as is explained here, that this old Mother of harlots was built up in those countries that were thickly settled along the borders of Europe and Asia. This is why Constantine wanted to locate on the line between Europe and Asia, because here is where the thickest settlement of people were, and there the new rising church was very strong. These thick settlements are further shown as the very place where this Constantine beast rose up at. For go back and note how it reads. “I saw a beast rise up out of ‘the sea.” This sea is the same peoples, multitudes, nations and tongues, and helps to connect these two events together that identifies both the beast and the woman that he carried. That this woman was carried or supported by the beast, Constantine’s government. The church looked to the beast government for support, and thus he was to her as a husband. Woman and beast thus marries. Under Moses this crime was to result in killing of both woman and the beast. That is what will come in this case finally.

Under Constantine we find that in all the thickly settled countries of the world and in all the large cities there sprang up at once very large churches, at Alexandria in Egypt, at Carthage in North Africa, at Thesselonia at Nicomedia, at Milan, Hippo, Jerusalem, Damascus, Rome, yea all over the thickly settled parts. It was several years before the bishop at Rome assumed the power to dictate to all the other bishops over the world, but they ‘all looked to the government to support them.
“And the ten horns which thou sawest on the beast, these shall hate the whore, and they shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.” V.16.

These horns loved her one time, and then married her. But it was a very wicked marriage. A beast marrying a woman. Just think how corrupt. This woman had a cup filled full of the filthiness of her fornication. This is not to be taken in a natural sense. So far as we know these people were clean normal people, but it has its application as a symbol. What caused the love of these ten kingdoms or horns to turn away from this woman, and begin to hate her?

“The love of money is the root of all evil.” This was the cause. Let us examine that matter closely as to why these nations pulled away from the old mother of Harlots. Woman is more intelligent than a beast. So a church is of higher order than a government. See now. The beast is the government and the Roman Catholic church is the woman. If a man rides a horse, he is of higher order than the horse. So the woman in this case above the beast in that he will finally obey her as a dog obeys you. If you want him to kill a varmint, he obeys you. So the church of Rome had her beast to kill millions of God’s helpless people. Thus she now wraps her robes around herself, after she washes her hands, and says the Catholic church never killed the heretics, but the state did. Yes, but if you put your dog on my sheep and kill them, the law says that you must pay for them, for the act is not much the dog’s act as it is yours. You used the dog and you are the guilty party.

But as I said, the love of money is the root of all evil. So after these bishops got more into the saddle, she got to eating more sheep meat. Killing God’s sheep. They needed more money and they had more and more laws passed to turn the money to the preachers, as is being done now. This matter kept growing and after awhile there was not money to run the government, and these kings got disgusted to think that all the money was gradually going to the preachers. So these different governments decided to get some kind of a divorce from the old lady. And at it they went, and then war started on land and sea, and never stopped till the reformation began to break out under Martin Luther. Printing was invented, people began to break loose.

This of course made her very desolate. She claimed to have one husband once, but she really had seven husbands, and even now the one she has is not really her husband, so that when claims to have no husband, we can say to her in this thou has well said, I have no husband.

Egypt was pulled away from her. Also all Asia for that matter. Then under the preaching of Martin Luther of Germany, the government began to pull off, as the time had come for this first beast to die. Or rather go into perdition, descend into the bottomless pit. These countries that heretofore supported Rome are now to strip her of the power to rule the governments, for this is to be all finally taken from her. So that it can be said that they stripped her naked. Also they are to burn her with fire. Martin Luther burnt the Pope’s Bull in the presence of the people, and denounced the power of the pope to rule the government of Germany, and so the government acted with him in this matter and protected him in this move. So that as we see the Lutheran church grow out of this move we can say that Luther was the father of the Lutheran church. Even if it is born of old mother Babylon. For she was the mother of harlots and abominations of the earth. I will not take the position that she must e literally burnt with fire but her power over the civil laws are to be burned with fire indeed. They are to eat her flesh as well as to burn her with fire. They eat her when they take away from the pope the power over and rulers, and magistrates. Here she lost her most coveted prize, and it was like cutting out her eye teeth or flesh. During some of these wars, Rome was burned. Houses of worship were burned to the ground, for these lasted in Europe for hundreds of years. King Pipin and son, Charles the great, gave the pope the country north Italy which they took from them Lombards, and the Pope ruled them as to their civic affairs like any king. But under Napoleon Bonaparte they were taken from him and never restored again. But as this was away after the rise of the Protestant nations, which take up the main identity of the second or two horned beasts, this work of Napoleon may not be any part of the work of the horns that hated the woman and made her desolate and burnt her with fire. Some might think that this was the final filling up of this prophesy, and it may be.

In the fourth verse of this chapter we will see that this woman was riding a scarlet coloured beast and both were scarlet coloured. Same colour. Both were very bloody with the blood of the martyred saints. This woman was decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand (her doctrine), full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication. This strange doctrine was the worship of the works of man rather the worship of God. This also make up the mark of the beast. Now all this finery is to be taken from her. This is and was her chief glory, to possess al these things of earth. She cared for earthly clothes more than she did the righteousness of Jesus. Jesus clothes his bride with the choice silk of heaven. His righteousness  is imputed to her by faith. Now we should not mix the work of kings of the earth with the final judgments of God upon mystery Babylon. This taking away from her power to rule the states, destroyed, as it were her firstborn and is the forerunner of her final and utter destruction is set up in the next chapter of the book of Revelation. This first judgment upon her came as these powers of Europe pulled off from the general central government at Rome, and marks the final overthrow of the great Roman Empire. I take it that this scripture is fulfilled in the years 1585, and around there.

“For God hath put it in their hearts to fulfill his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.” V. 17. God had foretold us that the seven heads and ten horns of this beast should have their power for 42 months. We reduced this to days and found it made 1260 days, which was the same time that the church was to stay in the wilderness, and the same time that the two witnesses were to prophesy clothed in sackcloth. Now this beast commences his union with this woman in 325 A. D. at the council of Nice. If we now add this 325 to the 1260 it will equal 1585, just when Protestantism was getting in the saddle, and Rome was giving up the union of church and state. Here Luther, Henry the Eighth, Switzerland arid others quit Rome.

“And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigrieth over the kings of the earth. V. 18.

Here this chapter puts the final and exact interpretation of the woman in the very last verse. If you will go back to the twelfth chapter of his book of Revelation, you will see there he tells in the last verse just who that strange woman is there that was clothed with her garments all from above. So now we here have this woman gliding into a city. Down to here she was simply a woman but she has become a city. Very well it is the same thing that we are studying. It is that city that reigneth over the kings of the earth. The city of Rome on the banks of the Tiber river has ruled the earth by the generals and armies that she has sent out more and longer than any power that this world has ever known. Think of the armies that fought till every foe came under, till he was called Pompey the Great.

In witness of the gospel, an ordinance we find,
And in the third of Matthew, that ordinance enjoined,
Enjoined on all believers, in witness how the Son,
He came and was baptized by His own servant John.
Not at the river Jordan, but in the rolling stream,
Stood John the Baptist preacher, when he baptized the Lamb,
So Jesus Christ our Savior out of the water came,
To show that we must follow and pattern after Him.
Infants were brought to Jesus, and brought for Him to bless.
A blessing they received and shall forever rest.
Then welcome tender parents to bring your babes along,
But not to be baptized, for Jesus baptized none.
The traditioners will tell you, our sentiments are new,
But if they’ll read their bibles, they’d surely find them true,
That there were none baptized but such as did believe,
And none but true believer’s will the mighty God receive.
John was the Baptist preacher when he baptized the Lamb,
So Jesus was a Baptist, and thus the Baptist came,
And if you would follow Jesus as Christians ought to do,
You would come and be baptized and be a Baptist too.
