Written by Moses Denman

Beloved Brethren, and Sisters and Friends: --Concerning them who seduce or tempt you, know this, "He that committeth sin is of the devil.,” I John iii. 8.

Since the days of lovely Eden, satan and those like him in vile disposition, have delighted and continued to indulge in wickedness, and also to tempt others to degrade themselves by sin. So my friend, when any one tempts you to commit sin, remember that such person is a child of or is mean like the devil when he tempts to sin. Therefore avoid the presence of that one who has tempted you to do wrong. For while professing to be your friend, such one is your real foe. And whether the tempter be satan or his servant, as man woman or friend, "Resist the devil and he will flee from you." Remember if you yield to wrong influence, you will have less strength to resist the next temptation. What we cultivate will grow.

Oh, my brother, my sister, will you obey yours dear Saviour who suffered and died for you, or will you yield to temptation, bring reproach upon yourself and the church, and grieve the Holy Spirit? I have confidence in you that you will "Trust in the Lord and do good." Oh, let us not serve another, but ever be loyal to our divine Husband and Redeemer. In humble penitent prayer let us confess our sin and turn from it for Jesus' sake. Remember our Saviour's command, "Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation." If we know Jesus, let us prove our faith by our works. Let us love Jesus and one another and obey the Lord's commandments. We read, "He that saith I know Him, and keepeth not His commandments, is a liar and the truth is not in him." I John i, 3, 4.

When born again, it is the desire and rule of our lives to do right. "Ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of Him." I John ii. 29.

Oh, poor weak and tempted one, if you are God's child, "Sin shall not have dominion over you," for the eternal God is your refuge and strength. Yes, God's seed which is Christ remains or dwells in your heart by faith, and "Will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able.” But God will hear the prayer of faith and deliver you from evil in your hour of trial. Praise the Lord! God bless you all for Jesus' sake.

Your unworthy brother in hope of eternal life.                   M.D. DENMAN.
