The brethren here in Bowie have prayer meeting every Sunday at 3 p. m.

The Lord has greatly blessed his dear people in these meetings. In short speeches the brethren proclaim the goodness of God in giving them a good hope through grace, and causing thereto come to Him; and that from time to time the Lord lifts them out of trouble and fills them with rejoicing. The sisters sing and hear with understanding hearts, and thus enjoy the public exercises. In modest obedience they do not speak in public; but engage in spiritual helpful conversation.

The brethren and sisters all were so blessed with God's love in their hearts that tears of joy coursed down their cheeks.

Those of our churches that have occasional meetings for prayer are observed to more strictly avoid evil speaking, and worldly-mindedness in general. They love God and one another more, and enjoy a purer and deeper spirituality.

I trust more of our pastors will encourage these meetings, if this should not occur to them let as many brethren as have a willing mind, meet occasionally at their homes or other convenient place, and discharge their individual duties to God. Then the doubtful will have their faith increased, others will be encouraged to approve, and all will be blessed of the Lord. "They that wait upon the Lord, shall renew their strength."

These earnest spiritual prayer meetings have been the custom of Old School Baptists from apostolic times, yet too much neglected. So I must heartily commend their necessary use; and humbly pray that more of our churches may have faith and love to walk by the same rule.

Dear brethren, pray with and for one another," and pray for me.

Yours in bonds and much love,

Bowie, Texas        M.D. DENMAN
