Dear Reader: -- Love is one of the attributes of our immaculate God. Its highest and most sublime expression is found in the "gift of His only begotten Son” in the suffering of Jesus on the cruel, unpitying cross for sinful, rebellious men--a gift unmerited and unremunerated by men.

It is only an ordinary animal propensity to return love for love, to love those who love us; but to love our enemies as well; is divine. Note the expression, "gift of His only begotten Son," and emphasize in thought the word gift. The leading characteristic of love is to give and that too without exacting or expecting anything in return as pay--to give cheer and encouragement and good will and kind words and helpful sympathy. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, etc."

Then, it may be truthfully said, “Love is unselfish." Those only have been spiritually blessed, who do indeed and in truth love all humanity and respect all creation, who love and respect even enemies and do good to the despiteful. Those who love most have been given most of the Spirit of God. They give most, blessing others as they give, and are themselves most blest; for "It is more blessed to give than to receive."

Do I love you merely because you love me, or treat me nicely and foster my pride and cause me to feel exalted in myself? Then is my love selfish and I unspiritual and sinful. But do you love me though I may wrong you and speak evil of you? Then you are "spiritually minded" and wonderfully blessed. "Let love be without dissimulation."

We should love all men, but especially and mightily those whose lives are right, those who having the spirit of Jesus reflect His image most.

Let us love one another because we love honor more and God supremely. Then will love be without dissimulation. Then will sweet peace be ours, and great joy in our hearts.

Try the foregoing thoughts by the word of God, try them by His Spirit which is within you, try them by your own experience, and see if they be right.

May I feel that I have the special of all the dear children of God. Pray for my family, also.

With love for all the dear saints.
