Written by Moses Denman

"Since twenty years of age, I have been inclined to shed tears when a christian experience was related. Sometimes the inquiry would arise, what will be your doom when called to die? The answer was filled with uncertainty. Often my desire or prayer was, "Lord have mercy on me a sinner," yet I never had such great trouble about my sins as many describe. Sometimes I greatly desired to join the church and live with the people of God but felt unfit and afraid I would bring reproach on the cause of Christ, whom I loved.

When about fifty-five years old, my love for God and His church was much stirred, and I felt very happy while invitation for members was given. Still I deferred coming, lest unprepared. When near sixty years of age, with many fears, yet constrained by love for Jesus, I joined the church, and have been much happier with the people of God.

I am now ninety-one years old, and from my youth have loved the church or Old Baptists, and hope to never cause them trouble."

This precious and aged brother does not fret or complain as many do, but is kind, patient, and pleasant. Bro. Davis resides with his son-in-law, J. H. Lessly, near Pottsboro, Tex., and promptly attends church fifteen miles away. May we all be as faithful.
