The proof that Jesus fulfilled the righteousness of the law in our stead is, that we "Walk not after the flesh." Rom. viii. 4. Happy thought--just so surely that Jesus fulfilled the law for us, we being led by the Spirit will turn from evil ways and do what is just and right. We do not trust our right-doings or righteousness, to recommend us to God. But knowing the righteousness of Christ, we perform good works from love, thereby giving evidence of a change of heart. If we are born again, we love God; and though we feel unworthy, we delight to obey Him. On the other hand, if we continue in Sin or walk after the flesh, the evidence is against us. For if we consider, oh, my friends, Jesus by His sufferings and death rebuked sin, and all who indulge in it. Our Saviour came in the likeness of our flesh, and for sin condemned sin in the flesh. "That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Rom. viii. 4. Dear reader, have you found your own righteousness too imperfect to bear the gaze of God's justice and holiness? And do you desire this "Righteousness of God," wrought out by Jesus the sinner's Friend? Then you have passed from death unto life and desire to obey Him who has redeemed and cleansed you by His blood. He speaks to you, "If ye love me keep my commandments." Jno. xiv. 15. Then come to the church. "Whosoever will-- O, gracious Word ! Shall of this stream partake; Come thirsty souls, and bless the Lord, And drink for Jesus' sake." Bastrop, Tex. M.D. DENMAN.
