Truly, every day and in many ways, we are taught that the goodness and mercy of God endure for ever. Lately the continued rains threatened to ruin our abundant harvest. Reapers could not run, and men with sad faces stood powerless to save the grain God had given. But now the clouds are driven away, and birds and trees and things without life, all are filled with praise to God for His goodness. And yet some men are harvesting on "Lord's Day," as if God could not take away His blessing even after it is reaped and garnered. Dear Lord save us from all selfishness or disrespect and ingratitude to Thee, who "openest Thy hand” and all things are "filled with good.” Ps. civ. 27, 28. Oh, that men would remember their helplessness and entire dependence on God for all natural and spiritual blessings. Kind reader, men cannot save you from death here nor hereafter. None but God can save, God alone can give a man life, and sustain his health or strength in that life. God is able to make him stand. Rom. xiv. 4; John x. 28. Jesus gives "eternal life," Jesus is "the Author of our faith," and Jesus "came to call sinners to repentance." Yes, God gives life and action, natural and spiritual. Then let all be up and doing their duty to their Maker, as a feeble return of respect and gratitude to God for all: His benefits; for it is of the Lord's mercies that: we are not consumed. Praise the Lord for His wonderful goodness and mercy to sinful men. Yours in sweet assurance and hope of heaven, through the imputed goodness and cleansing blood of Jesus the sinner's Friend. Sparta, Tex. M.D. DENMAN.
